The incredible team of PGT Teaching Artists has adapted the Teen Conservatory for virtual learning, allowing our students to create a performance space out of their living room, and make a costume collection from their own wardrobe. And you never know when a visiting Guest Artist will zoom bomb a class - so be ready for anything! Our PGquaranTine summer promises to be filled with creative challenges, fun surprises, and new discoveries!
Teen Conservatory provides a challenging, artistically demanding program within the nurturing, supportive environment that defines every PGT experience. Together with their peers, and guided by their director, the three week Teens will write their own original ensemble virtual theatre piece. Students in this program contribute to the concept, plot development, script, music and lyrics of their own show.
The Teens devote their mornings to studying the craft of theatre in specially designed classes. Core classes in Acting Technique, Song Study, Dance, and Shakespeare are taught at an advanced level to hone existing skills, while specialty classes such as Audition Technique, On-Camera, and Improv present opportunities for our older students to acquire new abilities.
In the afternoons, our Teen Co students collaborate, together with their director, to write the book, lyrics and music for an originally devised piece of theatre. Everyone plays an integral role and every voice is heard, promoting confidence in each actor’s ability to create.
The process of shaping their own ideas into a script has always allowed our teens to explore issues of great depth and comedy, and to create memorable characters, beautiful music and exciting plots. This year, our Teens will explore working in the format of virtual theatre - with all its challenges and opportunities. We know they will continue to make great theatre together, and can’t wait to see what they create in this new space.
Throughout this intensive yet non-competitive program, an atmosphere of respect, support and kindness is maintained in all classes, rehearsals and performances, allowing friendships to flourish and artistic abilities to be nurtured. The Teen Conservatory is an advanced program. Students will be challenged to work at a professional level and reach their individual and collective artistic potential. Students in the Teen Conservatory are expected to maintain a strong commitment to the learning process.
New material is covered in each session and we look forward to having many of the same students from session 1 return for session 2. Students registering for both sessions receive a discount! Or combine either session with one of our new 1 or 2 week programs!
