Dear Friends of The Play Group Theatre:
This year at PGT, we’ve had our share of magical moments—on stage and off. In the last year alone we’ve produced 14 shows, created additional summer programs to allow for a record number of students, and run our regular classes as well as new, exciting, one-time only workshops. We’ve also revived our outreach program, bringing quality programs into local schools, synagogues and churches. We’ve seen the magic of PGT pass from one generation to the next, as our graduates have begun returning to PGT, now as a part of our staff, sharing their energy and enthusiasm with a whole new crop of students.
This year also brought a big surprise: the White Plains Mall management required us to move out of our old facility. So we have relocated to a new space down the hall, while we wait for completion of Wildcliff Manor (which we plan to make PGT’s permanent home). In our new studios, we have watched the wonderful PGT magic spark again! We are using the unexpected opportunity to create a brighter, more functional space, which our actors, staff and parents are all enjoying. However, as excited as we are about our gorgeous new studios, the move was expensive. In addition, the mall management surprised us with a 44% increase in our rent. While our studios are filled with magic every day, we must also face the reality of covering these new expenses.
We all know that the PGT experience does not come without a price. Although our families pay tuition to participate in our performance projects and classes, the cost of operating PGT still exceeds our income. Add the unexpected expenses of our move and the rent increase, and it’s hard to make ends meet. So, as we have in the past, we are working to raise additional funds. Our goal for the PGT Annual Fund Campaign is to raise $50,000 before the end of the year. I am asking each of you to give as generously as possible, recognizing that your contribution will help PGT continue to enrich the lives of so many children. Sustaining the PGT magic is up to each and every one of us.
This year we’re adding something special to help us with our fundraising efforts. On Tuesday, December 19th we’re having a HOLIDAY BENEFIT at the White Plains Performing Arts Center. We’re combining the first-ever PGT Staff Show with a fabulous silent auction and a holiday party. It’s a night that promises to be fun for your whole family, so please bring everyone — and consider inviting some friends as well. Join us as we celebrate the season, celebrate PGT and celebrate the special magic created by Jill & Steven Abusch (See events.playgroup.org for details).
Tickets are going fast, so please use the response form today to reserve your space at our Holiday Benefit. We look forward to seeing you on December 19th.
Best,
Barbara Whitman
